Entomologist

Tania has a professional degree in Agricultural Sciences (Universidad Católica ofChile) and Ph.D. in Entomology (UniversityofCalifornia Berkeley). She is a full professor at the Department of Fruit Crops and Enology of the Universidad Católica ofChile. Here she has teaching responsibilities at undergraduate and graduate level, includingFruit Crops Pest Management,Integrated Pest Management,Insect Monitoring and IdentificationandGraduate Seminar.

Tania’s research objective is in developing more environmentally friendly pest control techniques. Thus her research have focused in biological and integrated pest control (IPM), insect natural enemy biology and ecology, and landscape ecology. Currently she leads two projects in this context, one dealing with the development of pheromones for the management of mealybugs (Pseudococcidae) in fruit crops, and the other in the study of the genetic and demographic effects in the establishment success of introduced biological control agents. She is also involved in one project related to influence of landscape diversification on the co-existence of native and exotic coccinellids and its effect on biological control of aphids, and in the EU funded projects IPRABIO and BIOMODICS (leaded by INRA).
